Products and Services

Data communications is a complex, fast-moving technology. We don’t expect you to get to grips with it yourself. That’s where we come in. We’ll explain the terminology and match the products and technologies to your needs.

However, you may already have come across some of the jargon, or someone else may have suggested that you could make use of a particular service or technology. And so we’ve listed below some that we supply regularly. Don’t worry if they mean nothing in themselves – we’ll make everything crystal clear to you as part of our free consultation. Note, too, that we haven’t included individual manufacturers and their products - such as the NEC Aspire, NEC XN120 or the Splicecom Maximiser – for the list would run to many pages.

Some questions and points to consider

Business Telephone Systems can be digital, analogue or a hybrid mixture of both. They can connect to the outside world by analogue phone lines, ISDN phone lines, H323, SIP or some other form of IP to provide a VoIP solution.

Phone systems can be stand-alone (PBX) or linked to provide a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Other solutions may cater for home workers.

Does your digital telephone system need to be modular and scalable to take account of your business’s future growth?

Do you want a networked telephony system to use capacity within your Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN)?

Do you need Quality of Service (QOS) for what you want to achieve?

Does your business need call logging or voicemail and/or automatic attendant to act as an automatic operator?

What type of telephones should users have, and do you want DECT cordless and/or headsets?

Is unified messaging voicemail important? What about call management?

You may need Computer Telephone Integration (CTI), screen popping or Microsoft TAPI outbound dialler facilities.

Do you need to integrate with contact management software, a CRM package or another software application?

Would hot-desking and/or mobile workers give you a business advantage?

Do you want to hold audio or video conferences?

You might wish to consider cheaper line rental and cheaper telephone calls with Least Cost Routing (LCR) or Carrier Pre Selection (CPS).

Outbound business call rates may be only part of the picture. Should you think about inbound services like 0800, 0808, 0845, 0870, the newer 03 numbers and other non geographic numbers?

Other carrier services can include GSM gateways to reduce calls to mobiles, and ADSL and broadband offerings.

As you’ll now realize, advice from a communications specialist like Equations is essential in helping you make an informed decision.
